The difference you will see every day
The Residence Collection describes R7 as flush inside and outside, while R9 has a decorative interior detail. That room-side appearance matters when you live with the windows: look at how the frame meets the reveal, sill and surrounding decoration. View samples from inside the room as well as from the street. Neither name on its own determines which looks right in a particular property.
Frame depth is a survey question
The manufacturer publishes a 75mm frame depth for R7 and 100mm for R9. Ask how the proposed frame will sit within your actual wall and what happens to internal sills, trims and external details. A deeper frame should not be treated as a drop-in substitute without checking the interface. For phased replacements, compare the proposed reveal positions and glass proportions with windows that will remain.
Do not turn chamber count into an energy ranking
Seven versus nine chambers describes the profile structure. It does not replace a whole-window comparison using the glass, opening layout and dimensions you intend to order. Ask for relevant complete-unit thermal data and compare the total project price. If the property has planning or heritage restrictions, establish the requirements for that property before ordering; a traditional appearance or a manufacturer case study is not project-specific consent.
What this means for a real brief
A buyer prefers R9 from an exterior photograph but wants a simple, flat interior finish. Viewing both samples reveals that R7 better matches that room-side preference. The supplier then checks the opening interface and glass package before the buyer compares final prices.
Turn the comparison into a shortlist
Mark each proposal as confirmed, needs clarification or does not meet the brief. Resolve a failed essential requirement before scoring cosmetic preferences. If both options meet the essentials, compare the extra cost of the details you will notice every day.
- Write down the three essentials for your project: appearance, everyday operation and any required performance.
- Request a dimensioned drawing with opening direction, handles and the exact model.
- Keep glass, finish, survey and fitting scope consistent between quotations.
- Ask for written delivery, warranty and aftercare responsibilities.
- Keep allowances separate from confirmed costs; compare VAT on the same basis.
