Understand your options
| Choice | What to consider |
|---|---|
| External flush face | Ask which face is flush and inspect a section or sample. |
| Joint appearance | Compare welded, mechanically jointed or other offered details. |
| Fixed and opening panes | Check whether their visible frame proportions match. |
| Finish | Specify smooth or woodgrain appearance, exact colour and inside/outside faces. |
Flush is a design detail, not a material change
These windows use uPVC while aiming for a different closed-frame appearance from an overlapping casement. A timber-effect finish is an appearance option rather than a timber product. Review the corner joints, glazing bead and handles together; these details make more difference to the character than the word heritage on its own.
Compare the complete elevation
A sample opening sash does not show how a multi-light bay or whole-house elevation will look. Request the fixed lights, opening lights, bars and ventilation components on the drawing. Use a common datum to align features across neighbouring windows, rather than repeating the same bar count at different sill heights.
Do not infer approval or performance from the styling
A flush profile does not automatically establish better insulation, security or suitability for a restricted property. Ask for evidence for the actual assembly and have any property-specific permissions checked before ordering. Compare the product and installation scope with the standard casement alternative to understand what the upgrade buys.

Apply it to your project
A cottage replacement needs a restrained exterior appearance but a simple interior finish. Compare the inside and outside of each flush system in person. Two windows that look similar from the street can use different internal profiles and joints.
Questions before you choose
Are flush windows only for period homes?
No. Their proportions and finish can also suit contemporary properties. Choose against the whole elevation.
Do they cost more than standard casements?
The price depends on system, joints, glass and finish. Request a matched quote rather than assuming a fixed percentage premium.
